A surprise search operation by the Bhondsi Jail Superintendent has led to the recovery of 24 mobile phones, SIM cards, mobile chargers, earphone leads and batteries. The search operation was carried out on Wednesday in the Bhondsi District Jail premise by Jail Superintendent Jai Kishan Chillar.
An FIR has been registered against inmates under relevant sections of Prisoner Act of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Bhondsi police station.
“Such things cannot be done without the assistance of ground-level jail staff. We will conduct such surprise checking in future on a routine basis to prevent criminals using mobile phones to operate their gangs, criminal activities and extortion racket,” Jail Superintendent Jai Kishan Chillar, said.
“We have received a complaint from the jail authority. We are seeking call detail reports of all numbers which were recovered and a strict action will be initiated against the culprits,” Ravinder Kumar spokesperson of Gurugram police, said.
Earlier on Wednesday morning violence broke out in the jail when members of two gangs clashed over a minor issue while buying food items from the jail canteen.
Six persons, including three prisoners and three wardens, were injured in the clash. Inmates broke branches from trees inside the jail and started hitting each other.
“The clash among 12 to 15 inmates who belong to two groups the Binder Gujjar gang, and the Rajesh Bawana and Ashok Gujjar gang. Later all security personnel inside the jail intervened to bring the situation under control,” a jail official said. A separate complaint in this regard was lodged by jail officials against the accused, and case has been registered against them at Bhondsi police station.
