Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa on Thursday directed the senior officials to release the two months pending salaries of Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad employees within 10 days.
The direction came after the Minister took a serious note of the issue of the pending salaries which has not been released for months.
Bajwa ordered an enquiry into the unnecessary delay in salaries and directed the Principal Secretary (Rural Development) to take stringent action against those officers who are delaying salaries of the employees without any genuine reason.
He also asked the Principal Secretary to issue written instructions to the concerned officials at the district and block levels to release salaries on priority instead of other expenses.
At the same time, the Minister assured the delegation of the Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad Employees’ Association that the government would soon put in place a permanent system for timely release of salaries.
The assurance was made to the delegation which called upon the Minister to discuss its various issues related to the Department.
