The planned spin-off from the Fast & Furious movies, that will centre on the characters of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw – played by The Rock and The Statham – has taken a nudge forward.

The film is scheduled for release on July 26th 2019, and with that in mind, filming is set to get started soon. And now we learn that Universal Pictures has a director in mind.

David Leitch, the helmer of Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde (as well as co-director on John Wick) is the top choice, and it’s now being reported that he’s entered negotiations for the role. If he takes the job on, he’ll direct from a script that’s been put together by Fast & Furious series veteran Chris Morgan.

The spin-off movie doesn’t have a title yet, although we’d just call it Statham ourselves. As we hear more, we’ll let you know…
