Police have identified the woman, who was involved in the kidnapping a five-year old son of a businessman of East Delhi. The boy was rescued after an encounter with the kidnapers in a flat in neighbouring Sahibabad area on Tuesday, 11 days after abducted.

Police said that they have identified the woman who stayed with the three accused at the flat. They, however, refused to reveal identity of the woman. Sources said the woman is the daughter of a Supreme Court lawyer.

She is girlfriend of Nitin Sharma, the mastermind of the kidnapping, said a police official involved in the investigation. She came to live in rented Shalimar Garden apartment to give an impression to neighbours that it was a normal family.

“The investigating officer (IO) will question Nitin face to face with the woman. It has been revealed that Nitin has multiple female friends and one of them is currently based in Nepal. We suspect that apart from paying off the debts from his eatery, Nitin had also planned to use the money to spend on his girlfriends,” he said.

On February 4, police got the actionable lead after the accused made a video call through Whatsapp to the father of the child Vihaan Gupta. “The team had managed to identify Nitin through that video call. Nitin accidentally showed himself in the call. That video call proved to be crucial lead. Coupled with the video call was the large call dump, which the technical team of the Crime Branched sifted through and intercepted to eventually trace Nitin,” said a senior police investigator.

“Since then, Crime Branch team under the supervision of DCP Dr Ram Gopal Naik, Joint CP Alok Kumar and Inspector Vinay Tyagi did not sleep for the next 48 hours to arrest rescue the child,” he added. Nitin planned the kidnapping with the motive to make fast bucks.

In the wee hours of Tuesday, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police rescued a five-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from a school van in East Delhi’s GTB Enclave area on the eve of the Republic Day on January 25, and killed one of suspected kidnappers in a midnight encounter in Shalimar Garden in Sahibabad.
