Spring Training Day to be held Saturday

DAVENPORT — The Polk County visitor center will celebrate baseball's spring training Saturday.

Central Florida’s Visitor Information Center will hold its 11th annual Spring Training Celebration day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center, 101 Adventure Court, Davenport. The free, family-friendly event will feature prize giveaways and a batting cage and a pitching booth with speed timer. Radio station 97.5 WPCV FM broadcast live from the event, and the center will give away commemorative event T-shirts to the first 300 visitors, one per person while supplies last. Visitors can register for two grand-prize drawings: one for four tickets to see the Tigers play a spring training game at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium and the other for a game-worn Tigers jersey.

In addition, visitors who bring canned goods for donations to local food banks can enter a drawing for attraction tickets and will get a free Legoland Florida Resort or Bok Tower Gardens ticket for each one purchased at the event, limited to the first 125 tickets sold. Attraction ticket prices are already discounted.

In addition, guests can get information on the Detroit Tigers' 2018 Spring Training season, now the club’s 53rd consecutive season of exhibition play at Tigertown in Lakeland.
