PEORIA — A 25-year-old Peoria man was arrested Thursday by Fulton County sheriff's deputies after they spotted him allegedly driving a car taken after a home invasion earlier that morning.

Abriece D. Owens was brought to the Peoria Police Department, where he remained Thursday afternoon being questioned about an incident that occurred in the 1000 block of East Willcox Avenue.

According to Peoria police spokeswoman Amy Dotson, the incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. when Owens allegedly entered the house on Willcox and took a car before fleeing.

A news release from the Fulton County Sheriff's Office said Peoria police put out word that Owens was headed south on U.S. Route 24 in a stolen car and was armed with a handgun. Officers located him around Speedway Road and gave chase, causing the suspect vehicle to flee at a high rate of speed. Owens got out of the car and ran on foot but was quickly arrested. A handgun, the release said, was located nearby.

The release said charges in Fulton County could be forthcoming at a later date.
