The figurines could be worth hundreds.
You might know Precious Moments as those collectable angelic figurines that perch on your grandparent’s shelves, but you might want to give the sweet statues a closer look. Some of the vintage collectibles are now worth a pretty penny, and there’s a lucrative market for them online.
Precious Moments memorabilia are selling online for around $250 for a statuette that originally retailed for $15. According to TODAY, the most sought-after figurine is called “God Loveth a Cheerful Giver,” and was one of the original 21 Precious Moments, which were released in 1979. The figurine shows an angelic-looking blonde girl standing next to a wheelbarrow of puppies, while holding a sign that says “FREE puppies” on it.
Other pieces that can sell for more on eBay are pieces signed by the artists, including one signed by Precious Moments master sculptor Hiko Maeda, that sold for $229, and a Cheerful Giver figurine signed by the artist Sam Butcher that’s being sold for $750.
Paul Burton, a spokesperson for Woolvey Fine Antiques & Collectibles, told TODAY that before sellers list the collectable, they should clean it well by dusting with a soft makeup brush to dust, and to wash with mild, soapy water if necessary. (Be sure not to get any water trapped inside the statuette.)
After you’ve searched the attic for Precious Moments figurines, check the cabinets for vintage Pyrex. Some pieces from the early 1900s could be worth thousands of dollars.
