10 BNP activists held in Dhaka's Chankharpool

Police detained 10 BNP leaders and workers, including four women, from Chankharpool area in Dhaka during clashes with law enforcers on Thursday afternoon.

Among the detainees, four Chatra Dal activists are Faisal, Naeem, Billal, Raihan, and a central Mahila Dal leader Popy.

They were arrested hours before the verdict sentencing BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to five-year jail on Thursday afternoon.

The court also awarded Tarique Rahman, BNP's senior vice president and party chief's eldest son, and four others 10 years in jail.

Md Akhtaruzzaman, Judge of the Special Judge’s Court-5, pronounced the judgment after reading the 623-page verdict for 18 minutes.

The court also fined Tk 2.10 crore each.
