Frayna heads youth squad in duel vs Laylo-led PA-PAF team

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s best young talents, led by Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna, International Master Paulo Bersamina and FIDE Master John Marvin Miciano, face off with Grandmaster Darwin Laylo and IMs Barlo Nadera and Joel Pimentel and the top masters from Army and Air Force in “The Epic Battle” starting today at the PACE office in Quezon City.

Frayna clashes with Laylo, Bersamina faces Nadera while Miciano tangles with Pimentel in the 12-board match pitting the Phl Young Rising Stars team against the Laylo-led PA-PAF squad.

Daniel Cuizon, who topped the Kidapawan Open recently and gained his FM title by ruling the ASEAN Youth Championship in Malaysia late last year, will also be part of the Young Rising Stars and will duel with NM Ronald Llavanes.

Also suiting up for Young Rising Stars are FM Stephen Rome Pangilinan, WFM Allaney Jia Doroy, FM Alekhine Nouri, WFM Shaina Mae Mendoza, Chester Neil Reyes, Jeth Remy Morado and Michael Concio while the Carlo Rosaupan, Antonio Chavez, Alfredo Rapanot, Kevin Arquero, National Master Bob Jones Liwagon, Kevin Mirano and Raquel Suan complete the PA-PAF squad.

Cuizon and majority of the Young Rising Stars members are using the event as part of their preparation for the ASEAN Youth Championship the country will host in Davao City in June.
