Malachi Richardson traded from Kings to Raptors

Malachi Richardson’s time in Sacramento has come to an end.

The Kings traded the reserve guard to the Toronto Raptors before Thursday’s trade deadline. In exchange for the former Trenton Catholic Academy star, Sacramento received Bruno Caboclo from Toronto.

Richardson played sparingly in his season and a half with the Kings. He’s missed the last five games with an ankle injury. In total, he’s appeared in just 25 contests for a 17-36 team, averaging 3.5 points per game.

The 22-year-old was originally selected by Charlotte with the 22nd pick in the 2016 draft and traded to Sacramento later that night.

The move to the Raptors, however, does take him to a contender. Toronto is 37-16 and sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference, one game behind Boston.

Caboclo, a 22-year-old Brazilian, has only played in 25 NBA games since the Raptors selected him in the first round (20th overall) in 2014.

In other deadline moves, the Knicks got Emmanuel Mudiay from the Nuggets and the Mavericks sent Devin Harris to Denver as part of the three-team deal.

Dallas also got Doug McDermott from the Knicks.

The move could help the Nuggets improve their point guard play as they chase a playoff spot. Mudiay was the No. 7 pick in the 2015 draft and former starter, but hasn’t started a game this season and is averaging a career-worst 8.5 points in about 18 minutes per game.
