Comets struggle from start in loss to Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH — For the Mackinaw City boys basketball team, it was a night to truly forget.

The Comets struggled from start to finish in a 72-25 loss at Ellsworth in Northern Lakes Conference action on Wednesday.

"I'm not sure I have words to describe what happened," said Mackinaw City coach John Martin, whose team fell behind 30-5 after just one quarter of play. "Ellsworth beat us in every aspect of the game right from the opening tip. We got some good looks early on but were unable to convert, and Ellsworth took advantage every time."

Hunter Malczynski led the Comets with eight points, while Kal O'Brien and Gage Russ had seven and six points respectively. Nolan Lalonde and Robert Martin rounded out Mackinaw City with two points each.

Kevin Dickinson led Ellsworth with 14 points, while Colin Ingalls tallied 12.

Mackinaw City (8-6, 7-3 NLC) will host Boyne Falls on Friday night.
