PATNA: The Bihar government will present the state's general Budget for 2018-19 fiscal on February 27, the second day of the state legislature's Budget session which is slated to begin on February 26 and conclude on April 4.
On the opening day of the session, governor Satya Pal Malik will address the joint session of the legislature. After the governor's address, deputy CM
Sushil Kumar Modi will table the Economic Survey Report for 2017-18, and the third supplementary budget for 2017-18.
This will be the eighth Budget to be presented by Modi, who is also the finance minister. He has presented Budgets from 2006-07 to 2012-13.
The 2018-19 Budget is being awaited with bated breath with regards to new taxes, if any. For 2017-18, the then finance minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui had presented the Rs 1.60 lakh crore Budget which did not propose any new tax.
An official communique from the state assembly said on Thursday the legislature would not meet for three days from March 2 to March 4 during the Budget session on account of Holi festivities and on March 22 due to the Bihar Diwas celebrations.
It also said the House debate on the governor's address to the joint session of the legislature, followed by the government's reply to it, would be held on February 28.
On March 1, the House debate on the general Budget would begin and continue on March 5 after Holi. The debate will conclude with the government's reply to it.
After the conclusion of the House debate on the state Budget, routine business transactions will be conducted.
