Archer man, 34, convicted of sex trafficking

An Archer man arrested in 2016 on suspicion of sexually battering a woman and then arranging for about 10 other men to rape her was convicted by a federal jury in Gainesville late Wednesday afternoon.

Arthur Larange Lee Jr., 34, of 506 Clayton Court, was convicted of sex trafficking by force and use of a facility of interstate commerce to promote prostitution, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Sentencing is set for April 23 and Lee could face life in prison.

Lee was indicted on the federal crimes last year. He abducted a drug-addicted woman from the parking lot of a Gainesville church where she was attending a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, the release said.

Authorities said he ordered her to drive to a hotel and then took pictures of her for use in an advertisement on the website Backpage.com.

At the hotel, Lee raped the woman, burned her and committed other violent acts, the release said. Over the next two days Lee forced and coerced the woman to engage in sex acts with numerous men at hotels and homes. He kept all of the money.

The woman was eventually able to flee with the help of a client and told authorities of the situation. Lee was arrested at the hotel.

Lee faces a minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life on the sex trafficking charge.
