((VO-Virus Imagery Videoblocks)) The Winter Olympics are off to a rocky start now that the stomach bug Norovirus is spreading around the event. ((VO-Olympics Broll)) 32 cases of the virus were reported on Tuesday.
According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that number has now almost quadrupled to 128 reported cases. ((VO-Generic Hospital)) Business Insider reports that none of the competing athletes have fallen sick, but police, event security, and food preparers have gotten the bug.
Roughly 1200 people are quarantined as they await results to see if they are infected. ((VO-AP Website)) The Associated Press notes that 900 military personnel have been deployed to step in and assist at the global sports event. ((VO-Chipotle/ Drinking Water)) Norovirus was the same infection that infected hundreds of people after they consumed Chipotle in 2015 and 2017.
According to the CDC most people can recover from it by drinking lots of fluids.
