The Gujarat Government would set up Plastic Park at Sanand on the outskirts of Ahmedabad to facilitate plastic industry in the State, said Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday during the inauguration function of the 10th International Plastics Exhibition and Convention – Plastindia 2018 at Gandhinagar.
Already one plastic park is functional at Dahej in Bharuch district and another would be developed under the State Government’s Specific Policy for plastic industry, said Rupani adding that the process to set up the Plastindia International University to lend pace to research and development, recycling and new inventions, at Vapi is on. The objective is to make plastic industry zero defect and environment-friendly, he added.
He said that Gujarat already produces over 50 per cent of country’s polymers and recycles one-fourth of plastic wastes in the country to emerge as the most eco-friendly State. Nearly 82,000 people are employed in 10,000 units, mostly in the MSME sector, with an investment of Rs 5, 500-crore in the industry.
Referring to incentives announced for MSME sector by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Government in the latest Union Budget for 2018-19, he said the Gujarat Government also provides incentive of seven per cent interest subsidy.
Meanwhile at the exhibition Solvay announced to set up Rs 500 crore expansion in its existing facility of performance polimer at Panoli. Amlan Das, managing director for India at Solvay’s Specialty Polymers global business unit said that the expansion project would be part of India’s flagship program ‘Make in India’.
In the five day event nearly 2,000 exhibitors from all over India and 50 delegates-exhibitors from abroad are attending till February 12. Speaking on the occasion Energy Minister Saurabh Patel said that Gujarat has emerged as Plastic Capital of Gujarat and an ideal place for exhibition, because of its availability of raw materials and business-friendly policy and ‘ease of doing businesses’.
