DeSoto will forfeit its final two basketball games of the regular season as a result of a fight that broke out between its boys basketball team and Duncanville's Tuesday night.

The team has also suspended several players for one game and one player indefinitely after the fight, which took place at Sandra Meadows Arena following the No. 6 Eagles' 67-46 win over No. 7 Duncanville.

Punches were thrown and multiple players had to be pulled off of one another as the fight spilled from the bench area down to one of the court's baselines.

"Regardless of which team may have initiated the altercation, DeSoto ISD makes clear that it does not condone the behavior that took place at [Tuesday's] game. In all situations, DeSoto ISD maintains an expectation of high character for all district students," a DeSoto ISD statement read.

Duncanville ISD spokeswomen Lari Barager said, for its part, Duncanville was "still working through the particulars of disciplinary actions."

The games DeSoto, the leader in District 7-6A play with an 11-1 record, will forfeit are against Irving Nimitz and South Grand Prairie. An 11-3 district record would still leave the Eagles in the playoffs.

Had the fight not forced the forfeitures, though, DeSoto would have won the district outright. As it stands now, Duncanville holds a 10-2 record in district play.

The basketball playoffs begin Feb. 19 for Class 6A.
