It is a complete shock to hear what’s happened. Everyone is really saddened.

Owen Adams, Pro-Vice Chancellor Colleges and Student Experience, said:

We are extremely shocked and saddened by the death of a Durham University student in Durham City last night.

We are offering support to students and staff.

Our thoughts are with the student’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

We are unable to comment further on what is an ongoing police investigation.

The forensic investigation is continuing outside Missoula.

I heard she was crushed by the barrier. When I came here this morning the forensics team had started examining the scene. It was quite a shock.

There are reports that a safety barrier may have played a part in the young woman’s death.

The North East Ambulance Service have provided a comment:

We received a call at 11.50pm to reports of an incident outside Missoula nightclub in Durham, in which someone had received a serious head injury.

CPR was already in progress. We sent three resources as well as an officer.

Sadly the patient passed away.

A 20-year-old Durham University student has died “in the vicinity of Missoula night club” in the city following an incident at about 11:55pm last night.

Officers are investigating but say the circumstances surrounding her death are unclear at this time.
