NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday released the identity of a second man jailed Wednesday in a pharmacy robbery and police chase that ended in a wreck.

Sterling Whitaker, 20, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, safe cracking and two counts of kidnapping. His bail is set at $160,00. Also arrested in the heist was Justin Thomas Whitaker, 25. Their relationship was not clear.

According to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Lt. Jerry Brewer, early Wednesday an employee of the CVS at 6901 Market St. was outside smoking when he was grabbed by three men wearing hoods who ordered him back inside and had him open the cash drawer.

The trio then took the cash and fled in a vehicle that was spotted by law enforcement.

“Law enforcement engaged the vehicle on Market Street, where it rolled over in the 5000 block of Market Street,” Brewer said in a news release.

The third person is still at large.
