Tiger women rout Morningside

SIOUX CITY, Iowa—The Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball team controlled the boards and Morningside College on Wednesday.

The No. 10 Tigers outrebounded the No. 15 Mustangs by a whopping 52-22 margin and coasted to the Great Plains Athletic Conference win 92-77. DWU improves to 23-4 overall and 14-3 in GPAC action.

Ashley Bray led the Tigers with 26 points and six rebounds. Sarah Carr added 19 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Amber Bray finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Five DWU players finished with six or more rebounds as the Tigers tied a season-high for boards in a game. Kynedi Cheeseman had nine points and eight rebounds, while Chesney Nagel had seven points and 10 rebounds.

DWU, which has now won a GPAC-best eight straight games, jumped out to a 24-16 lead and led 49-32 at halftime. The Tigers built their lead to as many as 25 points late in the third quarter.

DWU drained 11 3-pointers, just two shy of tying its season-high for triples in a game this season. The Tigers also assisted on 20 of their 32 made baskets

Morningside's Madison Braun poured in a game-high 34 points on 10-for-22 shooting from the field, including 7-for-11 from beyond the arc. She added nine steals. No other player scored in double digits for the Mustangs.

DWU maintained its second-place tie with Northwestern College in the GPAC standings as both teams are 14-3 in the league. Concordia University is No. 1 with a 16-1 league mark.

The Tigers host the College of Saint Mary 2 p.m. Sunday at the Corn Palace.
