Pimpri Chinchwad: Pimpri Chinchwad will get augmented water supply, from the Pavana river in the third and fourth phases of the project. The indicative cost of the augmentation is Rs 4.58 crore and a six-month deadline has been set for it.
Raw water will be tested and commissioned at the
Ravet bund.
Water from the river is supplied via pipelines to the water purification plant at Sector 23 in Nigdi-Pradhikaran. The first phase of the water supply project is catering to the needs of the fringe areas. In the second phase, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (
PCMC) has constructed 85 reservoirs and has installed 1.41 lakh water connections.
Speaking to TOI, Babasaheb Galbale, the executive engineer of PCMC's water supply department, said, "There are nine pumps - each having a capacity of 30 MLD - installed for phases III and IV. Of these, only one is kept as a standby. Therefore, if for any reason, more than one pump becomes
non-functional,
a lesser amount of water is pumped. As a result, water supply gets affected. Ideally, 50% of the pumps should be on standby to ensure that water supply is not affected. We will now be installing three more pumps, which will be kept on standby." He added, "There is space reserved for installing these pumps at Ravet. These will be made-to-order pumps for PCMC. The installation work will be completed in six months."
