Community members scheduled a meeting Thursday to discuss concerns about the Louisville juvenile detention center.
"We have to be in a second-chance business," organizer Neal Robertson said. "We have to be where it starts."
Robertson said he has concerns about a recent report done by the Center for Children's Law and Policy.
The city agreed to have the Washington, D.C., group look at ways the youth detention center could improve services.
The review found a staffing shortage and limited access to mental health care and education concerning.
"It's very, very important that we have these programs inside the jail systems because what we're supposed to be doing while they're there is rehabilitating them," Robertson said.
While the review highlighted several areas for improvement, the organization tasked with accrediting the youth detention center gave the facility a nearly perfect score during its most recent audit.
The American Correctional Association found the Louisville Youth Detention Services in 99.5 percent compliance during its three-day visit last November.
Robertson said he hopes Thursday's meeting will provide a better understanding of where things stand.
"What can we do to fix it, if in fact, it's true," Robertson said. "Then if it isn't true, we'll figure out what we can do about that."
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Cole's Place on West Kentucky Street.
