Today, we kick off 24 days – there are 24 award categories at the Oscars each year – of buildup to the 90th Annual Academy Awards. The Documentary Feature category is quite solid this year. The frontrunner may be "Faces/Places," which sees 89-year-old French filmmaker Agnes Varda hit the road with graffiti-style French photographer JR. Varda became the first female director to win an honorary Oscar for her contributions to film three months ago. "Strong Island" could contend, though. The Foreign category always is tough to predict. Sweden's nominee, "The Square," has been cleaning up on the festival awards circuit and features Elisabeth Moss as one of its stars. That has to be the frontrunner, with "A Fantastic Woman," Chile's entry about a transgender woman suspected in the death of her much older lover.
