Wednesday night marked one year to the day since John Oliver last appeared on The Late Show to promote a new season of Last Week Tonight. While there's been a lifetime of shit that's happened since they last spoke on the show, the two talked about the latest insanity to spew from the White House: Donald Trump's demand for a military parade.
"He thought the president was an inflated version of cutting a ribbon at a strip mall," Colbert joked.
And Oliver finished the thought: "He’s going to watch the royal wedding and say, 'I want one of those. Sorry, Melania, it’s time.'"
Along with Jon Stewart, there are few guests that Colbert has better chemistry with. They can talk about the royal wedding, the winter Olympics, anything really, and it will be hilarious. But a great moment at the end of the interview came when they discussed Trump's claim that he wants to speak with Robert Mueller about the Russia probe.
“I think he would do a good job, and I think he should do it,” Colbert said, looking at the camera.
“If I can just co-sign on that,” Oliver added turning to the same camera. “I know I joke around a lot, Mr. President, but I also think you would do an excellent job and I too think you should do it.”
Yes, please Mr. President, say all the best words to Mueller.
