Three of the most successful football players in Chapman High School history made their college choices on Wednesday morning.

Running back D.J. Twitty, quarterback Colton Bailey and defensive back Shaundre Miller, all cornerstones of the team that won one state title and two upper state crowns, all signed scholarship offers.

Twitty will move on to East Tennessee State University. He said the people he interacted with at the school made the choice an easy one.

“I love the coaches, and the people up there showed me great hospitality,” he said. “They have great facilities, I like the campus, and they have really strong academics. The chance to play in the Southern Conference is good for me. I just want a chance to prove myself and show what I can do.”

Bailey signed with Newberry, one of several local products headed to play for the Wolves.

“I’m excited about the talent we’ve got coming in,” he said. “It’s going to be great to play with some of these guys I’ve gotten to know through rivalries.”

Bailey said the campus and facilities at Newberry made a difference in his decision.

“The people are great,” he said. “I talked to the coaches, to the athletic director, to the president — it just feels like a second home. It’s like finding a new family and building new relationships.”

Miller will play at Wingate, and also praised that school’s family atmosphere.

“I like the people there,” he said. “That’s the biggest thing. You’ve got to feel like it’s home, and I definitely do there. I’m ready to get to campus and start my life up there.”
