Mumbai: The Cyber Cell of Mumbai Crime branch arrested a 39-year-old-man for allegedly creating a fake Twitter handle of Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter Sara and tweeting about several politicians including NCP chief Sharad Pawar. The cops said they were trying to trace the accused since October. The police have arrested Nitin Atmaram Sisode, 39, a resident of Loksarita Apartment, Andheri East for this social media hara-kiri.

After creating the fake Twitter handle SaraSachin_rt, the accused tweeted, “Everyone knows that Sharad Pawar NCP looted Maharashtra State but little know that he tried Center to #MallyaNamesPawar,” reported Mumbai Mirror.

A police official, who is investigating the case said, “As soon as Tendulkar came to know about the tweet, he lodged a complaint of a fake account with us because Sara is not in the country and neither his son Arjun nor Sara are active on Twitter.” After tracing the IP address, the crime branch arrested Sisode. Sisode, however, claims that he had purchased a second hand laptop.

“My client had purchased a second hand laptop and presently we are unable to trace the seller as we have not made any entry of him in our books of records. The person who operated the laptop created the fake ids,” said Ajay Umapati Dubey, the lawyer who appeared for the alleged accused Sisode. Sisode has been sent to police custody till February 9.

“We have registered a case against unknown person under section 419 (Cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 500 (Defamation), 66 C (Identity theft) 66D (Cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008,” said a police official from the Cyber Cell to the paper.
