RAJSHAHI, Feb 7: Students of Rajshahi University (RU) Folklore Department on Wednesday locked their class rooms for allegedly being harassed by the History Department students. They also boycotted classes for indefinite period and submitted a memorandum to the university Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof M Abdus Sobhan seeking solution to the issue.
RU sources said History Department students were making noise in the classroom during the class hour of the Folklore Department. When the latter department students protested this, a scuffle took place between them. Mentionable, both the departments are adjacent to each other at Ismail Hossain Siraji Building.
Folklore department students alleged that they had long been in difficulty to carry out their academic activities as the History Department students always make noises in absence of their teachers. Refusing the allegations, History Department students claimed that Folklore students intentionally got involved in altercation with them to grab their room, as they have not adequate classrooms.
Contacted, RU Folklore Department Chairman Prof Akhtar Hossain said they submitted a memorandum to the university VC over the issue.
However, History Department Chairman Prof Moyejul Islam told that they had already solved the problem.
RU Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman said he asked the Social Sciences and Arts faculty Deans to solve the problem soon.
