H.S. ROUNDUP: South Shore Votech girls return to playoffs

The Vikings are back in the playoffs.

Junior center Rory Sneyd led a balanced offense with nine points on Wednesday as the South Shore Votech girls basketball team beat visiting South Shore Christian Academy, 26-15, on Senior Night to clinch its first MIAA postseason berth since 2009.

Senior forward Taylor McKinnon had five points and 11 rebounds and was strong defensively for the Vikings (10-6).

Other defensive standouts were seniors Jenna Grande, Hayley Brousseau and Adriana Reise, plus junior Jade Watts.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Notre Dame Academy 54, Abington 43: Sophomores Kristin Barrett of Plymouth (15 points, six assists) and Haley Roberts of Marshfield (12 points, eight rebounds) starred as host NDA (7-9) avenged a 60-40 December road loss to the Green Wave (11-6).

"Just a nice win, considering we lost by 20 last time," Cougars coach Michael Barrett said.

Senior Grace Fox (Canton) added nine points, and junior Maria Pichay (Hanover) chipped in eight points for NDA, which needs to win three of its remaining four regular-season games to qualify for the playoffs. The Cougars begin the quest Friday at Cardinal Spellman.

Blue Hills 42, Diman Regional 33: Sophomore point guard Jamillia Ross (Randolph) scored 14 points, and junior forward Ariel Carter (Milton) added 11 points as the Warriors (17-0) won on the road.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Blue Hills 59, Diman Regional 56: Senior guard/captain Marcus Mompoint (Randolph) scored 15 points as the host Warriors (15-1, 5-1 Mayflower Large) avenged their only loss of the season. Mompoint hit a go-ahead 3-pointer for a 57-56 lead with 1:10 remaining, and then made two free throws with 19 seconds left to seal the win. Junior Mike Jean Louis (Randolph) added 14 points, and senior Sean Nauss (Avon) scored nine points in the second half.

BOYS HOCKEY

Quincy 2, Bridgewater-Raynham 2: Down 2-0 in the final two minutes, the host Presidents (9-7-2) pulled their goalie for an extra skater and got goals from Jack O'Brien (1:33 left) and Jason Whalen (:55 left) to earn a tie with B-R (5-9-2). Quincy is one point away from qualifying for the playoffs with three games remaining.

Rockland 6, Cohasset 0: Mike Flaherty, Evan Gormley and Joe Campanile each scored twice as the Bulldogs (15-1-2, 9-0-1) completed an unbeaten South Shore League season.

Duxbury 6, Silver Lake 0: Teddy Griffin scored twice, and Zach Stewart, Will van der Veen, Tanner Smith and Jake Brennan added goals as the Green Dragons (9-5-4, 8-2-2 Patriot League) beat the Lakers (6-9-3, 2-7-2).

Milton Academy 7, Tabor Academy 0: Senior forward Nathan Katzaroff had a hat trick and two assists as the Mustangs (14-2-1, 8-0-1 Independent School League) stretched their unbeaten streak to 11 games, one off the mark set by the 2015-16 team.

Sacred Heat 5, Diman Regional 3: The Saints (9-7-1) ran their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1), getting goals from Joshua McCafferty, Connor Greeley, Christian Koylion, Max Allan and John Silva. Goaltender Jake Egan made 24 saves.

Plymouth South 5, North Quincy 2: The host Panthers (12-3-1, 8-3-1 Patriot League Fisher Division) beat the Raiders (2-14, 1-11).

Medford 4, Norwell 2: The Clippers (8-4-2) lost on the road.

Plymouth North 5, Whitman-Hanson 3: The Blue Eagles (6-9-2, 4-7-1) pulled into a third-place tie with the Panthers (7-9-1, 4-7-1) in the Patriot League Keenan Division.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Milton 6, Pembroke 1: Julia Scannell (hat trick, two assists) and Kat Buchanan (goal, three assists) starred as the Wildcats (10-4-3) clinched a berth in the Div. 2 state tournament. Leigh Sullivan and Rory Flynn added goals. Pembroke dropped to 7-6-1.

Cohasset/Hanover 1, BMWORR 1: The Skippers (7-5-4) skated to a road tie.

WRESTLING

Rockland/Abington 36, Plymouth North 33: Freshman Jake Moore won by pin, and sophomore Owen Shea clinched the victory for Rockland/Abington.
