Road accidents continue to claim lives across State

With fatal road accidents taking place consistently across the State, five persons died in three separate road accidents in Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Haridwar district over the past 24 hours on Wednesday. In Bazpur, three persons died when the mini- truck they were in fell down about 50 feet into Kosi river after being hit by a tractor-trolley on Wednesday morning at 7 am. Both the vehicles fell into the river Kosi. A person who was in the tractor-trolley was admitted in a local hospital. Sources inform that a mini-truck loaded with cold drinks was being driven towards Kashipur. Accident occurred when tractor trolley driver attempted to overtake the mini-truck. The mini-truck driver lost control of the vehicle which fell into the river. Three persons identified as Gangaram, 42, native of Bareilly; Amrish, 28, native of Muzaffarnagar and Usha, 48, native of Hasanpur, Uttar Pradesh who were in the mini-truck died on the spot. Tractor-trolley driver Shahid Ahmed was seriously injured and referred to a higher  centre after being provided primary treatment at a local hospital.

In another incident, in Haridwar  a pedestrian at Chandi Chowk died on Wednesday in a hospital, after being hit by a speeding vehicle on late Tuesday night.

Police sources said that he was trying to cross the road when accident occurred. Body of 28 year old person has not been identified so far. Police have kept the body at mortuary for identification.

In Haldwani, a person died while four others were injured when the car they were in was hit by a dumper at Rampur Road on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Vishnu, native of Vrindavan, Mathura. The car was being driven to Haldwani from Ghaziabad when it met with the accident.
