(MENAFN) Indian police have seized a man and his brother when the man's wife accused them of stealing one of her kidneys for a dowry payment.

The husband has reportedly plotted for the surgery two years ago when she had a stomachache, making her believe it was merely an appendicitis operation.

However, she discovered one of her kidneys was gone when a couple of medical examinations were conducted at the end of last year.

The woman reportedly explained "my husband took me to a private nursing home in Kolkata, where he and the medical staff told me that I would be fine after removing my inflamed appendix through surgery."
