A man was killed and 25 others were wounded during a clash between two groups of Awami League in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on Thursday centreing the judgement of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The deceased was identified as Sumon, 30.
Quoting locals, police said a clash ensued between the followers of Golam Dastagir Gazi MP and Kayetpara UP chairman Rafiqul Islam Rafique. Both the feuding groups used sticks during the clash.
A number of injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared Sumon dead.
Police fired blank shots to control the situation and detained 20 people from the spot.
District additional superintendent of police Farruqe Hossain said Golam Dastagir had a long standing enmity with Rafiqul Islam.
Additional police have been deployed to avert further violence.
