UNLF claims, Assam Rifles strongly condemns

Imphal, February 07 2018: The proscribed UNLF has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack at the AR transit camp yesterday as well as at Mapal Kangjeibung the day before.

A press release issued by the outfit's department of publicity director M Sakhen said that the bomb attack at the AR transit camp near Minuthong in which 9 AR personnel sustained injuries was carried out by a special team of MPA.

The grenade attack inside Pologround (Mapal Kangjeibung) on February 5 in which two other AR personnel were injured was also carried by a team of MPA.

The outfit further claimed responsibility for the bomb blast inside M Sector on January 15 .

The bomb attack which targeted a patrolling team of 6 AR at Konthoujam Lamkhai on December 4 last year was also carried out by a team of MPA, the outfit said.

It further pledged that they would continue to attack Indian military forces until the alleged alien rule is uprooted from the soil of Manipur.

On the other hand, the Assam Rifles has strongly condemned the bomb blasts triggered by the UNLF on December 4 on a patrolling party of the security personnel, the grenade and IED attack at M Sector on January 15, grenade attacks at Polo Ground and Assam Rifles transit camp on February 6.In a statement, the Assam Rifles PRO said that the cowardly acts of the proscribed outfit to target the troops of Assam Rifles especially on February 5 during the ongoing 15th Sentinel Cup Equestrian Championship 2018 & 9th Junior State Equestrian Championship, being organized by Manipur Equestrian Society and Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association assisted by Assam Rifles to encourage and showcase the rich Meitei culture, history and heritage has drawn criticism from all.

The tournament was organised at Mapal Kangjeibung, a place considered sacred by many, said the statement and added that the besides being of cultural value, the revival and encouragement of the sport had beneficial effects on the economy of the land.

The Assam Rifles however will not play into the hands of such devious actors and firmly commit that no amount of such acts against them will make the Assam Rifles cause any inconvenience to the innocent and peace-loving people of Manipur, it added.

Assam Rifles reaffirms its commitment to continue to work with the people of Manipur for betterment of society and bring peace and prosperity and live upto its epithet of Friends of The North East, added the statement.
