2 held for drug trafficking, Rs 1.5 cr marijuana seized

Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested two drug traffickers and recovered 540.75kg of marijuana worth Rs 1.5 crore. “The Special Cell arrested Akbar Khan (37) and Mantu Singh (32). The team has seized two trucks which were especially built with cavity, one in the shape of a dak van and the second truck consisting of 10 wheels close body truck.”  said Pramod Singh Kushwah,  Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Special Cell.

Investigations have revealed that drug traffickers used to supply marijuana also popularly known as cannabis  from Delhi-NCR to Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhatisgarh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh . the accused used to procure the drugs from Naxalite affected bordering areas of Odisha, Chhatisgarh and Andhra Pradesh and sold them in Delhi-NCR and other States, DCP said.

Special cell teams were detailed to nab the peddlers. Acting on a specific input, one team stayed out at the Mohan Estate Industrial area waiting for a truck that was supposed to carry the drugs. Information was that a  particular truck was being used for supplying marijuana sourced from Odisha. The truck did come but was camouflaged as a ‘Dak Van’.

The police team intercepted the van and rummaged through the entire truck and did not find the contraband. They then asked the driver and his helper questions only to be told that they work for the post office. Then the police asked them basic questions pertaining to delivery of parcels, locations of post offices in Delhi and how the parcels where sorted inside the post office, the DCP added.

When Akbar Khan and Mantu Singh could not answer the questions, their truck was taken to the Special Cell office in Lodhi Colony. The police finally managed to find the contraband hidden in cavities in the driver’s cabin. “We found 12 white packets and 116 small packets wrapped in tape. Each packet contained a Marijuna leaf with seeds. The total package weighed around 540/7 kilo grams,” said DCP Kushwah.
