India vs South Africa: MS Dhoni becomes first Indian wicketkeeper to effect 400 dismissals in ODIs
Dhoni reached the landmark in the third ODI between India and South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town, when he stumped Proteas' stand-in skipper Aiden Markram off Kuldeep Yadav's bowling.
India wicket-keeper and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni achieved another feat in his illustrious career by becoming only the fourth stumper to effect 400 dismissals in One-Day cricket.
He reached the landmark in the third ODI between India and South Africa at Newlands, Cape Town, when he stumped Proteas' stand-in skipper Aiden Markram off Kuldeep Yadav's bowling.
In the 17th over of the South African innings, wrist-spinner Kuldeep deceived Markram with a googly and the ever-quick Dhoni removed the bails in a flash ending Markram's 32-run innings.
Dhoni is now only behind Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara (482), Australia's Adam Gilchrist (472) and South Africa's Mark Boucher (424) in terms of dismissals for a wicket-keeper. He took 315 matches to get to the mark.
Following Markram's stumping, Dhoni now has 294 catches and 106 stumpings to his name. Later in the match, he pouched another catch to dismiss David Miller as well. Dhoni, in fact, leads the chart in the number of stumpings. Sangakkara is the second in the list with 99.
India completed another comprehensive victory by defeating the depleted home side by 124 runs, earning their third ODI win in the six-match series.
Indian captain Virat Kohli extended his purple patch with a scintillating 160* to propel India to a solid 303/6 in 50 overs. In reply South Africa displayed another lacklustre performance with no batsman standing up to the challenge. JP Duminy was the lone batsman to score a half-century, top scoring with 51 as the Proteas were bowled out for 179.
Once again, the Indian wrist spinner duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep wrecked havoc in Proteas camp claiming four wickets each.
