Massive fire in vacant church doesn't appear suspicious

- A vacant church was badly damaged after a fire in southeast Atlanta Tuesday evening.

It happened on Humphries Road SE around 8 p.m. Firefighters said they found the main section of the building fully engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene.

Crews worked to knock down the blaze before firefighters said they could even enter the structure.

Officials said the building has been vacant for a few years.

Investigators said the preliminary cause of the fire appears to be electrical. They believe the fire started near the roof line or in the ceiling, but officials said it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.

No one was injured because of the blaze.
