Police arrested special assistant of BNP Chairperson Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and Chittagong city unit president Dr Shahdat Hossain from Dhaka and port city Chittagong respectively on Thursday, reports UNB.
Police picked Shimul Biswas up from the special court premises after the verdict sentencing BNP chief Khaleda Zia to five-year imprisonment and five others to 10 years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case as he faces 20 arrest warrants, said court sources.
Besides, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan central office said that police arrested Shahdat from the port city.
The 'mass arrest' was going on across the country centring on the verdict.
