MAPLE GROVE, Minn. -- A Maple Grove police officer shot and critically wounded a man who was wielding a knife in the northwestern Twin Cities suburb on Wednesday, officials say.
Police responded about 2 p.m. to a 911 hang-up call in the 9600 block of Trenton Lane North, where they were confronted in the house by a man with a knife, Maple Grove Police Chief Eric Werner said.
After unsuccessfully attempting to subdue the man with a Taser, one officer shot the man, who was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale in critical condition, Werner said.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called in to investigate the shooting. Werner said there was no threat to the public.
