After bowling out Sri Lanka for 222, Bangladesh had a terrible start with the bat. Suranga Lakmal dismissed Tamim Iqbal in the second ball for 4 runs, soon after which Mominul Haque was run out by Lakmal in the second over. Mushfiqur Rahim failed to provide some stability to the side and departed for 1 with Lakmal cleaning up his stumps. Liton Das and Imrul Kayes stitched a 33-run partnership before Dilruwan Perera dismissed him for 19. Das and Mehedi Hasan took Bangladesh over 56/4 at stumps on Day 1, trailing Sri Lanka by 166 runs. Earlier, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 222 with both the spinners Abdur Razzak and Taijul Islam taking 4 wickets each. Kusal Mendis and Roshen Silva fought a hard battle and scored fifties each. But they failed to take the total over 250 that had plenty of action written on it.
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Day 1 highlights :
Bangladesh reach 56/4 at stumps on Day 1, trailing Sri Lanka by 166 runs
WICKET! Dilruwan Perera has got his man and Imrul Kayes is gone for 19. Sri Lanka get another wicket. and moreoever, Bangladesh waste a review. BAN 45/4
Sri lanka have wasted a review here. Rangana Herath tapped Imrul Kayes on the pads and after a huge appeal was turned down, he called for a review. Replays showed it was pitched outside leg. SAFE!
This was coming. Mushfiqur Rahim survived once, twice but not a third time lucky with the same mistake. Left two deliveries from Lakmal which pitch outside the off stump and went near the stumps on this dodgy surface. But this time it nips back and takes away the off stump. BANGLADESH ARE 12/3
Mushfiqur Rahim has survived on a review and Bangladesh's miseries have not been compounded (yet?). Dilruwan Perera the bowler and Rahim has been given out lbw. Not a no ball and the only thing that can save him is an inside edge. UltraEdge confirms just the same. A big inside edge on that and Rahim bats on. Umpire Rod Tucker raised his finger and now has to reverse his decision
Mominul Haque is run out and Bangladesh have lost both openers early. BAN 4/2
WICKET! Suranga Lakmal strikes in the first over and Tamim Iqbal gives one straight to him. He is gone for 4. BIG WICKET! BAN 4/1
Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal come out to open. Suranga Lakmal with the new ball.
And it's all over for Sri Lanka here. Taijul Islam dismisses Roshen Silva. The ball took an awkward bounce and went straight to slips. Easy catch.
Roshen Silva has kept one end safe and he has socred a fifty here. He has ensured the side can go past 200 here and this is a good fight by him.
WICKET! Rangana Herath is gone for 2. Mustafizur Rahman gets another. Sri Lanka 207/9
WICKET! Akila Dananjaya is gone for 20 and it is Mustafizur Rahman who gets his first wicket. Awkward angled shot and a good catch by Mushfiqur Rahim at cover. SL 205/8
And that would be Tea break. Sri Lanka reach 205/8 at Tea.
4 Byes! And this brings 200 up for Sri Lanka. Good fighting spirit shown by the visitors.
WICKET! Huge appeal for catch, and the umpire gave it out. Dilruwan Perera called for a review and the replay showed a inside edge. He is gone for 31. SL 162/7
Sri Lank have managed to cross the 150-landmark with still 4 wickets in hand. It seemed difficult at one stage when the side went 110/6. But this partnership of 46 runs has brought them back in the match.
Taijul Islam gets his 2nd wicket and it is Niroshan Dickwella who is gone for 1. The ball kept really lowly and no chance for Dickwella to play as it went on to hit the stumps. Sri Lanka are falling like a pack of cards. SL 110/6
WICKET! Abdur Razzaq gets his 4th wicket in the match and this time it is the danger man Kusal Mendis who is gone for 68. The ball turned straighter after taking the bounce and duped Mendis on its way to hit the stumps. SL 109/5
Back after Lunch. The spinners will hope to continue their domination in the second session. Kusal Mendis is in the middle. Can Sri Lanka bounce back?
Abdur Razzaq has been the hero of the session. He has taken 3 wickets here. Sri Lanka reach 105/4 at Lunch.
Abdur Razzaq gets his 2nd wicket on 2nd ball. Dinesh Chandimal is clean bowled on the first ball. Pitched it a little straighter and the ball just took the stumps along with it. SL 96/4
WICKET! Danushka Gunathilaka is gone for 13. He slammed that one hard but Mushfiqur Rahim judged the timing of the jump beautifully to take the catch and dismiss him. SL 96/3
Another half century for Kusal Mendis. He has been in good touch this series. He scored 196 runs in the first Test and now has completed his half ton in the first session in the second Test.
WICKET! Taijul Islam gets the second wicket and it is Dhananjaya de Silva who is gone. The ball took an awkward bounce and de Silva edged that one straight to Sabbir Rahman at slips. He is gone for 19. SL 61/2
Terrific shot by Dhananjaya de Silva and it goes for a boundary. 50 up for Sri Lanka and one again a partnership appears to be building between him and Kusal Mendis.
WICKET! Abdur Razzaq has got the first wicket and it is Dimuth Karunaratne who is gone for 3. Good work behind the stumps by wicketkeeper Liton Das to take the bails off. His first Test wicket since February 2014! SL 14/1
Abdur Razzak starts from the other end. He has not played a Test since February 2014. Can he get a wicket here?
Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis in the middle for Sri Lanka. Mehedi Hasan starts with the ball for Bangladesh. Can he take an early wicket here like in the first Test?
