every athlete dreams about growing up.... the day you finally get to make it official and announce where you'll be headed to college to continue your athletic career...it's national signing day... the 20-18 edition...we begin our day at snider high school... five panther football players signing their letters of intent this morning... kicker jack james staying close to home and signing with two-time national champion saint francis... james was 10-11 on field goals this year with a long of 51... including the s-a-c clinching kick against dwenger. 3 meanwhile linemen zach mcdowell and garrett carroll both put pen to paper to continue their football careers at division two grand valley state in michigan... carroll started on the o-line for snider, while mcdowell recorded 47 tackles with 3 sacks on the d-line... and last but not least, the tandem of michael haupert and christian covington will reunite at indiana state... covington rushed for nearly 1400 yards and 24 scores, and haupert threw for 1700 yards and 21 t-d's to guide snider to their second straight s-a-c title and 11th straight sectional title. joining haupert and covington in terra haute will be bishop luers' tyreeon hambright... hambright expects to go in to training camp as an athlete and see action on both sides of the ball...during his senior campaign ty rushed for over a thousand yards and 12 t- d's on offense... on d he made 13 tackles including two for a loss... 3 but ty wasn't the only knight signing today...two other football players signing their letters of intent as well... kicker peyton howe will play for the monon bell at wabash college where he'll kick for the little giants...meanwhile contrez jordan staying right here in the summit city to play his ball with the university of saint francis... three other signings at luers... cassie birkmeyer will play soccer at saint mary's... gabby buday will play tennis at saint francis... and emily mcmanus will run track and cross country at aquinas... more s-a-c signing... carroll's blake eley is taking his talents to indianapolis to play for marian...eley led the charger defense with four interceptions this past season as carroll finished with a 7-4 record on the year...he said marian was the place to go because it just felt like home. 3 over at concordia lutheran... kayoni griggs signing his letter of intent to continue his collegiate career at olivet nazarene...griggs played some offense for the cadets but was known as a lockdown corner during his two years with the team after transferring from north side intercepting ten passes in his career...and now griggs wants to be known as one of the best at the next level, too... 3 over at north side, five more local football standouts signing to take their games to the next level.one legend will be staying here in the summit city.linebacker kalen desrosiers will go from state boulevard to spring street and play for two-time defending national champ saint francis. desrosiers and jalen lockett are friends off the field.. they're enemies on the field now.. lockett headed down to indy to play for the marian knights..both marvin williams and hayden jones are staying in-state as well.. williams and jones will suit up for the trine thunder in the fall..and lazerus davis is taking his talents up to olivet college.. 3 ou final signing of the day takes us out to leo..kicker and punter ben vongunten putting pen to paper, following through on his commitment to indiana wesleyan..vongunten will be part of the first team to ever take the field at i-w-u..the program will play its first game this fall..meanwhile, reece decker will go from a lion to a tiger when he steps foot on olivet nazarene's campus later this year..decker says he plans on playing the slot reciever position at the next level.. also signing at leo today.. dayne ousley will continue his soccer career at spring arbor.. meanwhile, his high school teammate, will lawn-uh-ger will play down at huntigton university..congrats to everyone at leo..
