Chakradharpur railway division of South Eastern Railway ( SER) has decided to set up digital fare display boards in various important railway stations.
Senior divisional commercial manager of Chakradharpur division, Bhaskar informed that the facility which would help passengers to know about the fare between originating and destination stations would be introduced in Jharsuguda and Tatanagar, Chakradharpur, Rourkela railway stations.
“We are in touch with an IT company which would help us in introducing the display device at the entrance and near the ticket counters. This will help passengers regarding railway fares for various destinations from the originating stations. The digital fare display boards would indicate fares of all category of seats/berths of mail, express and passenger trains, “ said Bhaskar.
Railway officials at Tatanagar said that the latest move which is an addition to passenger amenities would help passengers. “We have seen that passengers are not aware of fares. They come to know about it only after procuring a ticket. But, with the introduction of the fare display board they can see fare structure of all originating as well as through trains,” said HK Balmuchu station manager.
“Digital train display boards were introduced at the A1 category Tatanagar station as a means to improve passenger amenities. It was aimed at providing information related to arrival and departure of trains and to make journeys smoother for passengers. But we are happy to note that even fare display are also going to be introduced,” noted an official of Chotanagpur Passengers’ Association. He noted that the new step will further accurate information to passengers related to fare.
The Tatanagar station assumes importance in view because it is located on the Howrah-Mumbai main route. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
