Digne has been understudy to first-choice left-back Jordi Alba ever since he joined the La Liga giants from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016.
And he was handed just his fourth top-flight start of the season when Barcelona travelled to Espanyol on Sunday night.
Barcelona ended up drawing 1-1 at the RCDE Stadium, with Gerard Pique’s late goal saving Ernesto Valverde’s side’s blushes.
Digne was subbed off for Alba 15 minutes from time and the latest reports from Spain suggest Messi was less than impressed with his performance.
According to Mi Otra Liga, Messi believes Digne takes away the defensive solidity and attacking prowess provided by Alba.
And he let his team-mates know his distaste for the Frenchman in the wake of the draw.
Messi supposedly said Digne "cannot wear the shirt of Barca."
Messi is not alone in not being a fan of the former Lille man though.
Luis Suarez is apparently keen to help Messi in his quest to force Barcelona into selling Digne.
And the duo would sooner see Sergi Roberto step in in the future if Alba is rested or unavailable.
