Dutch Cello player Sakia Rao-de Haas performs Raha Bhim Palasi at Bhopal

When the Cello player from Netherlands played Raha Bhim Palasi, the audiences were left awestruck. In the open air auditorium of Radharaman Group of Institutes, Cello player Saskia Rao-de Haas gave a splendid performance on Wednesday.

The musical evening was organised by Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth (SPIC MACAY) Radharaman chapter. It is to be noted that Saskia Rao-de Haas is a virtuoso cellist and composer from the Netherlands and now is based in New Delhi. She is married to the sitarist Shubhendra Rao. She first came to India in 1994 where she studied Indian music under Sumati Mutatkar at the Delhi University.

She began her performance with Raga Bhim Palasi. With her scintillating performance, Saskia was able to grab the attention of the audience and maintain their interest. She was accompanied by Prashanthu Lal on the tabla.

During her visit at Radharaman college, she also interacted with the students. In his brief address before his presentation, he told the students that Indian music is very rich and in today's context, its importance increases so much because it to gives a sense of peace and relaxation in a busy life. She further said that students can use music to integrate themselves and achieve better test results.

While addressing the audience, she also emphasized on the importance of music that connects the different cultures of different countries together.

Speaking on the occasion, RR Saxena, Chairman of the Group, said that music is an integral part of our life, without all everyone is incomplete. “Music has the power to transform our emotions into few hundred seconds” he added. He told the students that they should try to understand more about Indian classical music so that this precious heritage can be saved.
