This is also the highest individual score by an Indian batsman against South Africa in South Africa, as Kohli went past Sourav Ganguly's 127 at Johannesburg in 2001. Moreoever, this is also the highest score by an Indian batsman in South Africa as he overtook Tendulkar’s 152 against Namibia in 2003.
The Delhi dasher also became the Indian ODI captain with most hundreds to his name as overtook Ganguly's record of 11 centuries in 142 innings. Kohli now has 12 hundreds as skipper but in only 43 innings.
Kohli, with 318 runs in this series so far, now also has the most runs for a visiting batsman in a bilateral ODI series against South Africa in South Africa. Ricky Ponting, with 283 runs in 2001-02, was the previous best. Meanwhile, Kohli also became the second opposition captain to score 150 runs in South Africa. The 1st being Ricky Ponting in 2006 at Johannesburg. The skipper also completed his 1000 runs against South Africa in the 50-over format of the game.
This is also his 54th International century where he will be the outright 5th-most prolific century-maker in international cricket behind Tendulkar (100), Ponting (71), Sangakkara (63) & Kallis (62). He is currently level with Mahela Jayawardene and Hashim Amla.
