KENT — A 15-year-old Kent girl has been charged after she allegedly cut a Rootstown woman with a knife outside the Kent Free Library Monday night.
Police Lt. Mike Lewis said Kent EMS treated the 19-year-old woman for a minor cut on her neck at the police department, but she was not transported to a hospital.
Lewis said the girl was charged with delinquency by felonious assault and taken to the Portage County Juvenile Detention Center.
Lewis said the incident took place outside the library's south entrance, 312 W. Main St., at about 6:30 p.m. after the girl allegedly called the woman, an acquaintance, and asked that she meet her at the library. Lewis said it is believed the two were involved in a dispute over a man.
“One thing I would like to stress is that this was not a random act of violence,” said Lewis. “We have no reason to believe there is any danger to the public who want to visit the library.”
Lewis said there were also a few other juveniles present at the scene. None of the others have been charged, but the matter is still under investigation.
