Digital Editor : Heidelberg


Job Description

EMBL is looking for a full-time Digital Editor to support the Strategy & Communications team at our main site in Heidelberg, Germany. Help us as we embark on an exciting and challenging journey to raise EMBL’s profile with diverse audiences and across multiple channels.

Working closely with colleagues responsible for EMBL’s digital communications, you will prepare, upload and update digital content in a timely and efficient manner. To do this, you will liaise with content producers within the team, as well as content stakeholders from different departments across EMBL’s six sites. You will also have opportunity to work on other projects across other digital channels supporting the digital communications roadmap.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing and uploading text, images and videos to digital channels;
• Configuring content management systems (currently Fiona, Drupal, Grav and Wordpress);
• Auditing and curating existing online content;
• Preparing content for our various social media channels;
• Migrating and repackaging content between channels;
• Liasing with key stakeholders across the organisation to ensure a smooth production schedule;
• Using various analytics packages to report on activity on our social media and web channels.


Qualifications and Experience

You will have completed at least an undergraduate degree, ideally in marketing / communications, digital media / publishing or a related field. Experience of working in a research environment or with scientific texts would be beneficial.


A creative self-starter with an excellent command of written English, you have an eye for detail, whether you are proofreading, fact checking or creating clean, well-structured HTML. You are a great teammate, flexible, highly organised and committed to meeting deadlines. Experience with Agile or Kanban methodologies would be beneficial.
You should be competent with using standard Office software, and familiarity with social media platforms is a plus. Some previous experience with online web editing is essential, and knowledge of Drupal, WordPress or Fiona content management systems is a plus. For preparing visual material for the web, you ideally have some working knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop. You should be a quick learner and be passionate about trying out new tools and platforms that help us collaborate within the team and streamline our workflows.  About EMBL
