Worcester, Fitchburg, others call off school for Wednesday

Worcester public schools will be closed Wednesday because of the anticipated storm. Fitchburg and other districts have called off school too.

In Worcester, Head Start and all before- and after-school programs are also canceled.

Worcester, Leominster and Fitchburg have declared winter storm parking bans because of the forecast for plowable snow.

Worcester and Fitchburg snow emergency/winter parking bans will be in effect starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Leominster's ban will go into effect at midnight and continue at least until Thursday. The duration of the parking bans will be adjusted if weather and road conditions make it appropriate to do so.

Worcester residents are reminded that no parking is allowed on main arteries, bus routes and in the downtown area. Cars may be parked on the odd side of other streets. Tickets will be issued and vehicles will be towed, city officials warned.

In Fitchburg there is no parking on city streets, including in metered spaces, during the ban. Vehicles that are parked in violation of the parking ban are subject to ticketing and/or removal at the owner's expense. Property owners are responsible for keeping sidewalks adjacent to their property clear of snow and ice.

And Fitchburg residents will be able to watch Mayor Stephen L. DiNatale deliver his State of the City address at 6 p.m. Wednesday on Fitchburg Access Television but the 2018 State of the City ceremony has been canceled.
