Group Works To Help Young People, Prevent Suicide

Sarah McDonald reports:
Suicide is something that affects many in South Dakota. Study after study shows that Native Americans face the highest risks of someone taking their own life.

Eileen Janis and Yvonne DeCory are with the BEAR program in Pine Ridge. There, they help young Native Americans who are facing struggles, including suicide.

"Anything we can open their eyes to, like experiences off the reservation, schools, anything we can show them, they're going to learn from it, and they have hope, they just need that hope," Janis said.

In tonight's Eye on KELOLAND at 10 p.m. CT, we show you what else is being done to help youth on the reservation.
