Residents in a troubled Kentucky water district have expressed outrage at a local firetruck participating in a gender reveal by spraying blue water.
News outlets report a video showing the gender reveal has lit up social media in Martin County. Inez Volunteer Fire Department Chief Lee Gauze says one of his firefighters paid $6.70 for 1,000 gallons of water for the celebration anticipating his son's birth.
Several posts in the Facebook group "Martin County Water Warriors" criticized the timing, as residents continue to rely on bottled water for everyday needs.
Customers have complained about outages, low pressure and dirty water. The eastern Kentucky water district has blamed problems on a decrease in customers and a corresponding loss in revenue for infrastructure repairs, and proposed a 49.5 percent rate increase.
