About 80 firefighters and a dozen fire engines raced to Holland Park Gardens after the London Fire Brigade (LFB) was alerted to reports there was a blaze at a first-floor flat.
Teams from across west London arrived shortly after 9.45pm, on Tuesday, and the inferno was put out about four hours later.
LFB said it sent paramedics and its Hazardous Area Response Team to the fire.

A spokesman said: “Sadly, despite extensive resuscitation efforts, one patient – a man – died at the scene.”
He added eight neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution.
officials are now investigating the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The site of the fire is around a mile away from the charred remains of Grenfell Tower, where a fierce inferno killed 71 people in June.

Campaign group Justice 4 Grenfell tweeted: “Thinking of those caught up in the fire around Holland Park tonight.
“No details to share as of yet. We hope that everyone is safe, and are thankful for the firefighters on scene.”
