Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel announced; Dwayne Johnson likely to reunite with entire cast

Ever since Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has proven itself to be the highest grossing franchise (besides Spider-Man) for Sony Pictures, the Dwayne Johnson starrer had been looking at an expected sequel announcement. Sony Pictures has moved fast on this with the writers, director and Johnson expected to return in the second part, as reported by Deadline.

The project does not have a title or a production date confirmed yet but negotiations with writers Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, and director Jake Kasdan are on. The rest of the ensemble cast including Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillian are expected to reunite with the lead Johnson too, as reported by Variety.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was itself a sequel to the celebrated Robin William starrer 1995 hit Jumanji. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, made on a budget of $100 million, continues to dominate the box office seven weeks after its release and has raked in an impressive $857 million globally so far.

The new sequel will be produced by returning producer Matt Tolmach, along with the Seven Bucks Production team which comprises Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, as reported by Variety.

As of now, Sony Pictures is gearing up for yet another anticipated sequel in Ryan Renolds starrer Deadpool 2 that will release on 18 May.
