Phyllis Jeanne McCabe, 88, of Pekin, passed away at 3:31 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
Born Nov. 18, 1929, in Pekin to Roy and Louise (Gilson) Schmidt, she married Walter McCabe on May 8, 1949, in Pekin. He survives and was blessed to have celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, Kevin (Tammy) McCabe and Michael (Susan) McCabe, both of Pekin; three grandchildren, Jessy (Tiffany) McCabe of Springfield, Nicole (Sean) Crombie of Ellisville, and Collin McCabe of Pekin; one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; and she was a nanny to many, including Emma and Kaitlyn Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Scott Schmidt.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where she served as a youth leader and on the Altar Guild for many years. She had also served on the Memorial Committee of the church.
She was a charter member and past president of the Hoe and Hope Garden Club, a member of the Pekin Y.W.C.A. and former member of King’s Daughter.
A homemaker, Phyllis had worked for Corn Products Corporation in the payroll department for eight years. She had also worked for Pekin Insurance.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Phyllis enjoyed her flower garden, reading and dancing.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
